Gov. Deal approves of this message. But you paid for it.

Gov. Nathan Deal’s re-election campaign is just smoke and mirrors.

Today we learned that Gov. Deal has based his campaign on a bogus claim that was bought and paid for by your tax dollars.

It turns out Site Selection Magazine has 134,000 reasons to say that Georgia is the No. 1 place to do business.

Since Gov. Deal took office, the state has paid the niche magazine — a magazine with just 215 paid subscribers — $134,000.

The small magazine’s glowing endorsement of Georgia’s business climate has been the centerpiece of Deal’s $1 million statewide advertising blitz.

But now we know the Deal campaign is nothing but smoke and mirrors.

A top economist told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Gov. Deal bragging about a small magazine’s endorsement of Georgia’s economic climate is “like celebrating how the football team is doing while a university is going to hell.”

Gov. Deal wants you to look at anything other than his record:

  • Gov. Deal became an overnight multi-millionaire after selling his failing business to a company that owes the state $74 million in back taxes. He and his business partner continue to collect $20,000 every month from Georgia’s largest corporate tax debtor.

  • Four of Georgia’s rural hospitals have closed under his watch and his only solution is to cut even more services.

  • He’s slashed the public education budget by $1 billion every year until this year when he is running for re-election.

  • He continues to play partisan politics with people’s lives by refusing federal money that could cover 650,000 uninsured Georgians.

  • His signature policy reform drastically cut the HOPE Scholarship and is now called “one of the state Capitol’s biggest economic blunders of 2011.”

  • Georgia families and students were stuck in one of the state’s worst weather-related traffic jams as he posed for photos at the Ritz-Carlton.

No wonder Gov. Deal is grasping at straws.

He can’t win this election if voters know the truth.

We pledge to make sure voters know Gov. Deal’s full record this year.

Give to Better Georgia today so we can continue to hold Gov. Deal and his supermajority legislature accountable when they use our tax dollars for their personal benefit.
